Cystic acne treatments are given to people whose skin is prone to a lot of inflamed red growths, such as blackheads and whiteheads. These growths on the surface of the skin are called as pimples, acne or zits. This treatment is not complicated. Cystic acne is considered as a very bad form of acne. This acne is also called as modular acne and can affect anyone in this world; this is not age specific. This acne gets its name from the cysts that are present on the skin surface which start to break out after a while. Cystic acne is formed on the surface of the skin. It is an infection which occurs due to blocked pores of the skin and therefore the breathability of skin is hampered. There are many reasons for acne to develop on the skin; the main ones being poor skin hygiene and use of bad skin products. They are red in color and thus they are very much visible on the surface of the skin. This in most cases happens in adolescent age and therefore is blamed on the hormonal changes in the body; but this is a myth. The main cause of such type of acne is dandruff and improper diet. The other reasons that are responsible for development of cystic acne are oily/greasy skin and collection of dead skin cells or dirt on the surface of the skin. These are the main reasons of skin damage and clogging of the pores.
Cystic acne treatment
There are various ways, how one can get treated for this type of acne. A few ways are mentioned below for getting rid of this type of acne:
Self-Care
- Make sure that you use a non-drying and mild soap (Neuterogena, Dove, Cetaphil, Basics or Cera-Ve). These soaps are known for removing the dirt which gets accumulated on the skin throughout the day. This is the reason why most of the dermatologists recommend these soaps. One should use these soaps for removing make-up and should definitely wash their face with this at least 2 times in the whole day.
- One should always shampoo your hair on alternate days, if you have an oily scalp. Do not allow your hair to fall on your face if the scalp is oily.
What you should not do: -
- Never pick, squeeze, and scratch the pimples or acne on the skin. One can be tempted to do this, but this will just ruin the skin and do no good it. This is one of the main causes of scaring.
- Avoid touching the fingers and hands to the face when you have a lot of acne; this is a source of spreading it to various other parts of the body
- Avoid wearing head gears or accessories like caps, head bands or rubber bands (tight)
- Avoid the creams and cosmetics which have a lot of oil content in it and make the skin greasy. Always remember to remove all the makeup before you hit the bed. This will always allow you to stay away from acne.
Treatment
Cystic acne treatment can be a very expensive affair if the treatment starts at a late stage. This is the reason why people prefer to avoid acne development from the beginning. There are various types of gels and creams which are prescribed to the patients; they are as follows:
- Retin -A, known as Retinoic acid cream or gel is one of the most popular cream that is prescribed for treating this type of acne.
- Sulfur, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide and resorcinol are one of the most common and the efficient medicines prescribed to patients.
There are many antibiotics that one can take for getting rid of this severe acne on the skin. They are as follows:
- Many oral antibiotics like doxycycline, tetracycline, minocycline, erythromycin, amoxicillin and trimethoprim are given to the patients. These are strong dozes and differ from the type of acne treatments. One should always consume them after consulting a skin doctor.
- There are many topical antibiotics as well. The most common ones being erythromycin, clindamycin, and dapsone. These are medicines that need to be applied on the skin. They can be applied on a daily or a weekly basis; depending on the level of acne on the skin.
Many a times, this type of acne is caused in women who have a drastic hormonal change in their body. In such cases, the doctor may prescribe the following medicines: -
- In some cases birth control pills/contraceptive pills will be of high advantage. Though they are known to cause acne, a few pills may help the patient to get out of the acne
- A tablet called spironolactone may help the patient to get rid of this form of acne
Cystic acne treatments must be conducted with a lot of patience and must be given a lot of time to heal. This type of acne is necessary to be removed from the surface of the skin so that it does not spread further and more acne is not caused on various other parts of the body.
